hey bebe

Kid in a penguin suit. Just because.

I finally have a printer which works, so if I'm not being too lazy, expect some more scanned art!!

But like I said, it's all dependent on aforementioned laziness levels.
I bought the most glorious pair of boots the other day. They would have been the boots the girl Che Guevara would have taken on his motorcycle and zoomed across the South America with, would have worn. They're difficult to get into but so goddamned worth it when they're on.

And I found a pretty little beige, skinny belt in an opshop today. It's got a gold little clasp and I'll have to take a picture.
This is the book I'm reading at the moment, "The Slap" by Christos Tsiolkas. It's a whole bunch of back ground stories of the guests present at a barbecue where a small child is slapped. You see the story from every point of view and Tsiolkas is a great story teller. It's interesting, seeing the conflicting perspectives. My sister recommended it to me, so I was a bit hesitant to start it, seeing as the thickest book she's ever read is probably the fourth Harry Potter.

As you've all probably heard, Julia Gillard is now Australia's prime minister. This bit of news might seem rather innocuous to some readers who don't live in Australia but she's actually the first female prime minister Australia's ever had (despite not being voted in by the general public). The elections are only a few months off (they might actually be called very soon though) which is why Gillard's ousting of Rudd seems like a bit of a two-faced move (I think Rudd has now being backbenched) but the opinion polls do show that she is the preferred prime minister, in comparison to Tony Abbott. So she did it to effectively 'save' the Labor Party. Her rise to this position has once again (in a positive and I'm-all-for-it-kind-of-way) stirred up discussion regarding feminism, the glass ceiling and inspired all sorts of 24 hour articles over discussions about motherhood, marriage and success in the workplace.

All the politics aside (but not really, because that's what this whole paragraph is mainly about), I admire Julia Gillard. One particular part member once said to her (and I'm paraphrasing here) "What would you even know about the issue, you aren't even married and you don't even have kids!?"

It's annoying to see that the first related search on GoogleImage search is "julia gillard ugly". While Gillard is aware of the public image, she has felt no need to have a family because she is "supposed to" or even take on a religion because politicians "should be setting an example". She is not the first Australian Prime Minister because the time had come for one, it was because she was the person deemed best for the job at the time. We're not just putting women in prime positions to say we are. But the Prime Minister, Premier and Governor-General are all women for the first time in history.

It's nice to have these kinds of examples. I'm actually really proud. It's positive and inspiring.

This week, the Chinese artist Wu Guanzhong passed away.He was quite a prolific artist for his time and his works are just beautiful. He donated a bunch of them to Hong Kong.
My friends all bought me this beautiful Diana F+ camera for my birthday. I can't wait to start taking pictures on it!
