I used to love copying different bits out of magazines. Magazines like Vogue, Frankie, Harper's Bazaar, Dolly all provided endless wells of material for re-creation. As I grew older, I almost stopped drawing from things that just came out of nowhere. I just couldn't conjure up a face or an image to put down on the page. Everything came from something else. Almost all art is plagiarism but mine wasn't even plagiarism, it was always directly borrowed. I was never ashamed of it and I always credited things; I figured if I did the original justice, everyone would recognize where I had 'borrowed' my inspiration anyway. I miss the mini-sketches and doodling though, I do want to get back to drawing just for pleasure. I currently have a beautiful, black bound art diary sitting in my room at college which my friend Sam got me from the COFA store but I still haven't been able to bring myself to touch it quite yet. Title pages always mean something to me and I guess I don't want to fuck up the very first page.
